Thinking of starting your own business? 8 things to keep in mind

To be honest, my entrepreneurial journey found me, and not the other way round. I was not eager to become an entrepreneur and start something up myself. I was working in the startup ecosystem when I got an opportunity to launch my own business. So I seized it, and here we are today with LaunchDXB. ⠀

Prior and during the Launch DXB journey, I learned A LOT on how to start a business and what to keep in mind as you take your first steps. Wanna know what it is like to start your own business? Let me share here what I applied and learned so far!

. Learning #1 - It is not cliche to say: genuinely follow your heart! You need to ask yourself what you are mostly passionate about. If you are not doing something because you believe in it or because you truly love doing it, you will lose motivation and give up early in the journey trust me. It is a lengthy and challenging journey that is best accompanied with love and passion!

. Learning #2 - Invest a lot of time to read about the whole process in order to understand the market and to learn the game. Consult various resources and successful players in the ecosystem when searching for answers to your questions. Researching what you are doing and where you are doing it are key to playing the game right. You can never stop learning about these two aspects of your business, and you never should.

. Learning #3 - Being open to suggestions, feedback, and new learnings, no matter how harsh or shocking they might sound, will allow you to grow faster. Don’t let your emotions take over! Listen to what others have to say. Reply with “thank you for your feedback,” then go back to your team and assess what you heard. Learn, adapt, and change what needs to be changed in your approach.

. Learning #4 - Understand that it is a tough journey. It is never impossible to achieve. It is just tough and challenging. There will be many no’s, financial constraints, and long unproductive meetings that may drain you. But guess what, there will be LOTS of successes you get to celebrate at every turn. These will make it all count!

. Learning #5 - Expect to work late some days, and expect not to work at all during others. It is true that you own your time more as an entrepreneur than an employee, yet sometimes it owns you. You will still have deadlines to meet, stakeholders to please, proposals to draft, and plans to set. It will still be a similar day to your regular working days, but here you are the decision-maker and the manager of your own time.

. Learning #6 - Work hard sometimes, but work smart at all times! Think of a single big step, which, when accomplished, can relieve you and the team from 10 other smaller steps.

. Learning #7 - Persevere. Hear the 'no', but never settle until you get the 'yes'! Believe in what you are doing so others believe in you and trust your brand.

. Learning #8 - NEVER forget to enjoy the journey, cherish its every aspect, and make it all count!
